This past Saturday, the Lady Rattlers competed in the Texas State Tournament for the first time ever. The ladies won 2 games against Texas Lutheran and University of Mary-Hardin Baylor and lost 1 game to conference rival, St. Edward’s University. Although the Rattlers only had 8 players, they worked hard to place 2nd in their pool.
Later that same Saturday, the team had a blast partying at the St. Mary’s Homecoming Baby Bake event. Homecoming Oyster Bake or "Baby Bake" is a Homecoming Weekend event that creates a unique opportunity for all St. Mary’s alumni and the current St. Mary’s community to come together as one and enjoy a great night of food, music, and fun! The volleyball players had a great time enjoying the company of new and old friends at this unique event.

We got a very nice Valentine’s Day surprise from the coaches. We got three new cute workout tanks and some yummy Valentines Day candies to snack on for the day since they also canceled afternoon practice. It was a great day!
Today we start our 20 hours of volleyball and we are very excited to be getting to play volleyball more! We have been working very hard in the weight room every one had been getting so much stronger. Today Channing and Tarine did 5 reps of 95-pound push press! Pretty impressive! We also announced our captains last week, Channing as captain and Amanda as co-captain. Both are excited for the new role and are looking forward to leading the team.
The Lady Rattlers have completed their third week of strength and conditioning! Although the ladies have been sore throughout the course of this off-season, they have been getting stronger and faster every single day. Every player has increased their weights in Squats, Hang Cleans and other exercises within the weight room. This upcoming Tuesday, the ladies will participate in the 3rd annual Spring Fling Chili Cook-off at St. Mary’s University’s Flex Field (4:00 p.m.). The volleyball team will create a unique chili recipe and compete with several other teams and organizations within the St. Mary’s community for the 2017 Chili Champ title! This fun-filled event will have other exciting activities to go along with the free chili. The team’s “Dye’n for Good Chili.” Theme will consist of everything tye-dye.
After this week, the volleyball team will begin team practices where they will be allowed to have more team training with the coaches.

This week has been very exciting and busy. We raised money for our Dig Pink night on Friday and Saturday morning and sadly had our last home game for the year. We won our game and played for our two seniors, Megan and Rachael, as it was their last time playing home ever. We played OPSU and the third set were down like 18 to 24 them and ended up coming back and winning the third set to get the win. It was very exciting and it was a good way to end our last home game for the seniors.
This is from Saturday when we defeated OPSU. Lauren, Bree, and Shelley killing it in the front row.
We had so much fun decorating the gym for Dig Pink! We had made posters, hung up streamers, and blew up a lot of balloons, this was our before picture. We also tie dyed our shirts the day before our match and they turned out so good! Bree, Erin, and myself (Amanda) cheesing before our match against
LCU. Thank you to everyone who came out and supported St. Mary’s volleyball and the fight against breast cancer.
Here’s a picture of the two seniors before and after the match. Megan and Rachel had received gifts from the coaches that were pink elbow pads for Megan ‘s awesome diving and skills and a pink helmet for Rachael to wear at all times to avoid injury. It was hilarious and also seeing an old photo of Rachael rocking braids on the slide show topped it off. Also we cannot forget about Meg’s video of her doing pterodactyl, priceless. Meg and Rachael are great people, friends, teammates, students, and I am truly blessed to have played with them. They will truly be missed. But they will do amazing things in the future. This was the senior’s cake, had to get a picture, it was too cute.

Hey y'all, I'm Jaycie Pluenneke the awesome number 16 on the St.Mary’s volleyball team! This week we have been super busy preparing for the second round of conference! We played Trinity, Dallas Baptist University (DBU), and St. Edwards. Since Saturday was the battle of the Saints, we played St. Edwards. Extremely proud to say that we crushed them in four sets!! Sunday we had the chance to participate in the 5K for the neighborhood that was held here on campus. One other teammate and myself were lucky enough to get to participate in the race! This was a pretty awesome experience since it was my first 5K ever! This week we will be preparing to take on Lubbock Christian and OPSU which are both home games, so come out and wear your pink! Also don't forget that Saturday is our senior night and we will miss our seniors dearly :'(
Wish us luck on our next matches and GO RATTLERS!

Hello world and all that inhabit it, I’m Lauren Martinez #9 on St. Mary’s volleyball team. This past week was our by-week and we have been working extremely hard in the gym for our upcoming 3 matches this week starting with Trinity and traveling to Dallas and Austin for the next ones. This past Saturday we had team bonding on the soccer fields which was filled with completion and many laughs (we had to untie frozen socks, it’s hard by the way)…Today (Sunday) we got to do Halloween crafts and decorate with all the brothers and it was very memorable. WE LOVE THEM.
Wish us luck on the road this week facing some good competition!
Hi! I am Shelley Chapron and I am a freshmen on the volleyball team. This past week, we played Newman and Fort Smith in the first round of playoffs. We lost 0-3 to both teams, but we played hard and had a good overall match with the two teams. After these games, we will start the second round of conference play! After the games this week, some of the girls on the teams went to the river walk to see the beautiful sights of San Antonio. Here, we got a chance to connect with each other and see all of the fascinating views in San Antonio. We also ate some great food at a Mexican restaurant! Overall, this week was great and although we lost two games, we will be back in action for conference to avenge these teams!
Rattlers take on local team Our Lady of the Lake tonight at home!
The St. Mary’s volleyball team continued conference play against Lubbock Christian University on Thursday and Oklahoma Panhandle State University on Friday. The Rattlers endured a six hour bus ride to Lubbock, Texas early Wednesday morning to play them the following day. The girls on long bus rides typically like to spend their down time doing homework, watching movies, studying volleyball film, and sleeping. The following day, the team engaged in team bonding by going to Main Event. They also went shopping and eating as a team that morning and early afternoon. Later that evening, the girls prepared to compete against Lubbock Christian. After battling point for point, the Lady Rattlers fell to Lubbock Christian in the 5th set. The Lady Rattlers had a phenomenal game, however, the Chaparrals found a way to win the conference game that night.
On that same night after the game, the team traveled to Guymon, Oklahoma to rest up and prepare for another important conference match against Oklahoma Panhandle State University for Friday. Despite the loss against Lubbock Christian, the St. Mary’s volleyball team defeated Oklahoma Panhandle State in 4 sets leaving them with a 1-1 record for that weekend. The Lady Rattlers will play Newman University on Thursday October 6th for Professor Appreciation Night and University of Arkansas-Fort Smith on Saturday October 8th.
