Hello! My name is Ariana Flores and I am a sophomore DS. So, a little bit about me: My major is Business Management and I aspire to one day go into hospital administration. I have four other siblings (1 brother and 3 sisters), so I am the oldest of five children. My favorite color is blue and I love going on adventures.
This past weekend we were lucky enough to travel all the way to Louisville, Kentucky for a tournament! The weekend overall was a great experience with all of my teammates and coaches! So you all can get a feel of how our weekend went, I’ll go through a timeline of the things we did J
So, starting Thursday 9/8, we left school for the Austin airport at 6am sharp. We arrived at the airport only 30 minutes before our plane started boarding so we were lucky that the airport wasn’t busy! After going through security, we got some delicious breakfast sandwiches that we ate on the airplane. On the plane, I sat next to Shelly and she is very afraid of flying so it was pretty funny watching her as the plane took off! The flight was about two and a half hours and it went by very quickly which was great! We landed safely in Cincinnati, Ohio where our luxurious charter bus was waiting for us outside. The whole team was very surprised about the leather seats, charger plugs, and great speakers the bus had! From the airport we were on our way to coaches parents’ house in Louisville which was about an hour and a half away. (Since I didn’t mention before, Louisville is coach’s hometown!!)
Coaches parents were such great hosts and have a beautiful home! When we got there, we ate a very satisfying BBQ meal. After eating we played some fun games! We were split up into 3 different teams and first we played catch phrase, which was so much fun, and then we played gestures. That game was funny because we had to act out some inanimate objects such as a mailbox so, as you can imagine, it was interesting. J After games we got to sing Happy Birthday to coaches youngest daughter Riley who was turning 1!! She got a whole cake to herself to destroy but she wasn’t a fan of the icing so she just played with it instead. We got to eat DELICIOUS cupcakes and got to choose from vanilla, chocolate, or caramel.
The next day, Friday 9/9, was game day!!!! First we played West Georgia University at 11:30am and beat them in just 3 sets! It was a really great way to start off the tournament! After our first game we got sub sandwiches from a place called Penn Station. I had never heard of it before but it was very good. We did some scouting and some studying before it was time for our next match against Bellarmine University at 7pm. Our last game for the day was one of the most competitive games we’ve played all season! Unfortunately, we didn’t pull out the win in the 5th set but we never gave up and kept fighting until the very end. Although it’s never fun to lose, we took that loss and learned from it.
We started the next morning early with breakfast at 8 am to fuel us for our 11:30 am game against Alderson Broaddus University. We played an aggressive first game and won in 3! Our next game was against Ohio Valley University, which we also won in 3 sets! Although it wasn’t our best performance, we still managed to win! After our games, we went straight to Hard Rock Cafe for our last dinner, and it hit the spot. Coach treated us to ice cream after dinner for our hard work over the weekend which reeeeally hit the spot! Overall the weekend went really well, we finished 3-1 and two of the girls got All-Tournament (Bree Perry and Shelly Chaperon) so we were all very proud of them! We ended the trip on a great note, and we can’t wait to start our conference matches and dominate!
